School Leadership

A Message from our Principal

I am so grateful to Dr. Matt Stover and the Catawba County School Board for entrusting me to serve the Bunker Hill High School community. I consider it an absolute honor and a privilege to join you all as a partner in education and a champion of our students at BHHS. Each member of our school community is important, valuable, and crucial to our success as a school. The tradition of excellence that has been established at Bunker Hill High School will only be entrusted to the professional, the kind, the selfless, those who are willing to serve, and to those that always act with integrity! We may not be responsible for the circumstances that we encounter but we will always be responsible for how we respond. Join us in being champions for our students, and carrying the banner for BHHS! #RISEUP

    Meet Preston Clarke, Principal

I joined the CCS team on June 14, 2021.

    Experience

I began my teaching career as an AVID elective teacher at Maiden High School in August of 2006, where I taught for three years until July of 2009. From August 2009 until September 2011, I taught Social Studies at Watauga High School which is in Boone, NC. In September 2011, I transitioned to an Assistant Principal role at Watauga High School. I was named the Principal of Valle Crucis School located in Sugar Grove, NC prior to the 2014-2015 school year and remained in that position until July of 2019 when I was named Principal of Lincolnton High School. After spending two years at Lincolnton High School, I was fortunate enough to join the Catawba County School system as Principal of Bunker Hill High School on June 14, 2021.

    Experience

I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education (K–6) from Appalachian State University and began my teaching career at Shuford Elementary School. In 2014, I joined Catawba County Schools, where I spent eight and a half years teaching kindergarten, first, fourth, and fifth grades. During that time, I continued my own education by earning a Master of Arts in Executive Leadership from Gardner-Webb University. For the past four years, I have been proud to be a part of the Bunker Hill High School community, where I have continued to grow as an educator and leader.

    Education

    • Appalachian State University- Elementary Education (2012)

    • Gardner-Webb University- MA Executive Leadership (2019)

    Why I Became an Educator

A high school teacher who believed deeply in my potential and invested in my education played a pivotal role in shaping the person I am today. I was also inspired by my father, who dedicated 30 years to education and demonstrated the lasting impact educators can have on the lives of others. Their influence ultimately inspired me to pursue a path in education and create that same meaningful impact for others.

    Favorite Activities

I love the beach and go as much as possible. I love spending time with my family and friends. Plus taking care of our mini farm.

    Meet Bill Vaughan, Assistant Principal

Joined Team CCS - March 2002

I am excited for the opportunity to be back where I began my teaching career.

I bring 24 years of experience teaching high school math and coaching football in Catawba County Schools.  I chose to be in education because I wanted to have a positive, high-impact on student life.  Prior to that, I attended Lenoir-Rhyne and was a 4-year letterman in football.

My wife, Amber, and I have been married for 23 years. We have three children.  Landon is beginning his second year at Lenoir Rhyne University where he plays on the men's basketball team.  Lexi just graduated and is enjoying work as a flight attendant for a private airline and beginning a business as a drone pilot.  Maverick is six years old and an "old soul."

In my time away from school, my family and I attend LR sporting events and spend time at home by the pool.  I enjoy grilling and maintaining my yard.

I look forward to getting to know the students, staff, and families at Bunker Hill.
